A Light for the Gentiles
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6.
Ben Gurion, Israel’s first Prime Minister once declared in perfect harmony with the bible that the purpose of Israel is to be a light unto the nations, and a moral and social beacon unto the world. It is therefore no coincidence that one of the nation’s symbols is a menorah, ready to share its light with the nations. Jesus clearly told us to put our light on a candlestick so that people will be able to see it.
Today, evil forces stemming from multiple directions are trying to quench this light. We, as followers of Jesus therefore need to fall in the lines and pray for the peace of this nation in particular, but also for its neighbors and other nations of the world. This command applies more to our generation than any other generation living before us. We therefore need to both pray and fast according to His word, so that our prayers wrapped up in the word of God can shine on the obstacles Israel and the world we are currently facing.
Prayers contain the potential to be more powerful than any kind of weapon ever created by man. In order for our prayers to reach the very center of Gods throne room we need to daily apply God’s word and remind him of his promises. Israel, Gods first born and the apple of His eye is not only the cradle of the bible but also God’s instrument for the salvation of every tribe, race and nation of the earth.
Israel is truly the light of the world. When the Psalmist claims that the word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path, he highlights the very importance of meditating on the scriptures. It is crucial for the upcoming generation of believer’s, our future church leaders and government representatives to search the word and grasp Israel’s importance and purpose.
Now is the time to put on the garment of discipline, and just like David meditate on the Word of God in order to let the Eternal light of Israel shine through us unto the uttermost parts of the world.
